Heryee Biotech: Advancing Innovation and Sustainability in Aquatic Systems

Heryee Biotech has been deeply committed to technological innovation and sustainable applications in the fields of ornamental aquatics and aquaculture. Founder and CEO UE, with a professional background in environmental engineering and a passion for aquatic ecosystems, has dedicated himself to the research and practical application of water treatment and microbiological solutions. Under his leadership, the company has developed comprehensive solutions that are both scientifically sound and practically effective.

In this exclusive interview, King One Design spoke with UE, CEO of Heryee Biotech, to explore his entrepreneurial journey, the core values driving the company, and his reflections on the collaborative booth design experience with King One Design.

[Company Profile]

Company: Heryee Biotech Co., Ltd.

Interviewee: Yu-Chih Lai (UE), CEO

Overview:

Heryee Biotech specializes in water treatment and microbiological technologies for ornamental and aquaculture systems, aiming to deliver sustainable, healthy, and scientifically grounded solutions for its clients. The company is built upon four core technologies: symbiotic microbial fermentation, water purification engineering, functional feed formulation, and disease quarantine systems. Together, these innovations support the creation of stable and biosecure environments, injecting both sustainability and innovation into the aquatic industry.

The motivation behind starting this business stems from something I have always pursued and firmly believed in — making a lasting contribution to environmental protection, water resource management, and ecological sustainability.

When Passion Becomes Expertise: An Entrepreneurial Journey Rooted in Water

From Engineering to Aquatics: Building a Sustainable Ecological Path through Entrepreneurship

UE, CEO of Heryee Biotech, began his journey with a background in environmental engineering. By applying his expertise in water treatment and microbiological technologies to the ornamental aquatics industry, he seeks to develop a sustainable aquaculture model—one that is environmentally friendly and ethically responsible.

Q: Starting with ornamental shrimp, how did you use microbiological technologies to create sustainable solutions for aquatic ecosystems?

A:Before founding Heryee Biotech, I worked as an environmental engineer specializing in water treatment systems and process design. Aquaculture initially began as a personal interest. Through a series of opportunities, I became connected with various aquaculture farms—particularly those focused on ornamental fish and shrimp—and was invited to assist in improving their water treatment systems.

Through these hands-on experiences, I came to realize the industry’s urgent need for integrated expertise in both microbiology and engineering. However, professionals with such cross-disciplinary knowledge were rare. This insight became the driving force behind my decision to establish Heryee Biotech and dedicate myself fully to the ornamental aquatics industry.

Ornamental aquaculture is a sector that heavily depends on water and ecological resources. By combining my expertise in microbial applications and water purification engineering, I aim to enable more efficient water recycling, reduce stress on aquatic life to promote animal welfare, and support ecological sustainability by promoting artificial breeding over wild harvesting.

Three Core Technologies Driving an Efficient and Sustainable Aquaculture Ecosystem

Q: What key impacts does Heryee Biotech’s symbiotic microbial fermentation technology have on shrimp health and water quality management?

A:Heryee’s symbiotic microbial fermentation technology is primarily applied across three major aspects.

First, in water quality management, it enables rapid breakdown of ammonia nitrogen, nitrites, and other harmful substances, helping to maintain water stability and prevent drastic fluctuations that could cause ecosystem stress. Second, this technology establishes a symbiotic relationship with algae, promoting stable algal growth through microbial activity to achieve ecological balance. Additionally, the algae serve as a natural and nutritious live feed source. Third, we incorporate symbiotic microbes into feed formulations to enhance shrimp palatability and improve gut health.

These three facets work synergistically to form Heryee Biotech’s current ornamental shrimp farming system. This integrated approach is the key to effectively applying our technology in practice and generating tangible benefits.

Q: Facing the global market and the wave of industry transformation, how does Heryee leverage its integrated advantages to respond?

A:The industry’s main challenges revolve around quality control, price competition, and market regulatory trends. In terms of quality, the key factors include survival rates during transportation and the vitality and coloration of shrimp when received by customers. Price-wise, we must contend with low-cost competition from Southeast Asian countries. Market trends are increasingly influenced by EU regulations and the ongoing ESG sustainability movement.

To address these challenges, Heryee is committed to offering stable and reasonable pricing to trading partners. At the same time, through brand marketing, we communicate our commitment to quality and sustainability directly to end consumers, strengthening brand recognition and trust. Once the end market builds preference and confidence in Heryee, it further encourages buyers to increase purchase frequency, thereby solidifying long-term partnerships and fostering a mutually beneficial industry ecosystem.

Bringing Aquaculture Technology to Global Exhibitions: Opening Doors to Partnership and Market Access

On-Site Aquaculture Demonstrations Enhance Brand Appeal and Trust

Q: At Interpets 2025, how did you showcase your brand’s unique strengths through booth design and strategy?

A:This time, we chose to bring our farmed shrimp and related equipment directly into the exhibition, allowing us to concretely demonstrate Heryee’s strengths in aquaculture technology, product quality, and import-export trade to B2B buyers. For general visitors, the variety of shrimp species on display, along with their vibrant coloration that surpasses typical aquarium exhibits, effectively attracted public interest in both cultivation and purchasing.

By adopting a “live product display × technical experience” booth strategy, we engaged both B2B and B2C audiences simultaneously. Our goal is to establish initial brand recognition and trust in the Japanese market, laying a solid foundation for future expansion.

Physical displays effectively capture audience attention.

From Exhibition to Reflection: Making Every Event a Starting Point for Growth

Q: What kind of future collaboration do you hope to have with King One Design, and what are your company’s future prospects?

A:We look forward to establishing a long-term partnership with King One Design—not merely completing a single exhibition, but treating each event as valuable experience that feeds into the next. Our goal is to continually improve how we present ourselves and to critically reflect on every aspect of the exhibition process.

Many companies feel their exhibition results are limited because of a lack of effective content delivery and strategic planning. Even at the same event held annually, feedback and orders can vary significantly, often depending on the attention to detail and post-event review. Therefore, we hope to engage in timely exchanges with King One Design after every exhibition to discuss how to optimize key elements such as visitor flow, visual design, and storytelling.

Even if our booth size remains unchanged, we believe that upgrading visual quality, brand communication, and corporate image can greatly enhance visitor trust and recognition. For us, exhibitions are not just marketing windows—they are vital platforms for team collaboration and self-assessment, helping us better understand market demands and identify areas for improvement.

In short, participating in exhibitions is more than just showing up; it is a stage that requires thorough preparation and self-reflection.

International exhibitions serve as crucial gateways for market engagement.
